Balloon Fashion Show Fam!

I dedicate this lovely photo which only shows but a flash of a moment of an enchanting night of fashion and art in Miami. I feel blessed to have participated in Carmen Ballering's (middle) Balloon Fashion Show. If there's anything I admire fully, it's thinking outside the box. Paving your own road. Making a honest statement about who you are with no consideration for judgement. I believe this is purity at its best! And so, with no further ado, do I have the pleasure of presenting to you Carmen Ballering- fashion forward designer and sculptor! And of course, not to forget the lovely ladies who participated in all of this with me and had an incredible show =)...

Lastly I want to thank Ms. Cindy Bee (right) , who made this show EVERYTHING it was and probably more... This girl was non-stop taking care of and handling all things at once. She was that sturdy rock in the foundation created for the entire event. Thank you mama!

March 30th @ THE NEWS LOUNGE

This was a such a harmonious night.
The 2 people who made that possible must be named. They are the 2 players in this picture-Michel Gonzalez and Rachel Larralde. THEY WERE INCREDIBLE. I don't say this to exaggerate in any way, I truly feel blessed to play with them. This was the first time Rachel played with me live and she complemented the music so well.
This was my first night @ News Lounge and the turnout was great! So great, that I have been contacted to play there again on June 1st. I am planning to bring the same set up and show you all this special sound that's created with the 3 of us.

MIAMI FASHION WEEK 2010!

FINALLY!!!
I know it's been like over 2 weeks since my Miami Fashion Week performance!! But many things made it impossible for me to post on my blog. The main one being 'technical difficulties'! I'm glad I could share it with you now though...late is better than never ; ) This was truly an AMAZING night!! From the hair stylist(s) to the make-up artists to the MFW 2010 camera crew to the incredibly talented designers whose unique clothing designs graced the catwalk and deified the beautiful models who sported them...and who can forget the blinding white lights and flashing cameras of all the worldwide press that attended! Like I said...it was amazing.
Even the crowd was way more reactive than last year, I guess they just couldn't resist! ; ) hehe...

In any case, I dedicate this post and these pics to those people who made me look STUNNING. When you look great, you feel great; when you feel great, you act great; and when you act great, you're results are even greater. *Ria

Ahhhhh...what can I say? I had such an amazing night at the Van Dyke Cafe! I'm excited for the next performance there =) It was so great to have such a wonderful evening at such a place.

For all of you who don't know much about Miami and it's live music scene, Van Dyke Cafe is known to be special place, for its atmosphere, location, food, but mainly for it's 2nd Floor. That's where all the nightly magic happens. I felt that magic this last performance there... I want genuinely THANK every person who came out- fans, supporters, fam & friends, lovers of music, passers-by, and newcomers. You made that night special...thank you. And so it's with great pleasure that I provide you guys with these pictures!!.. showing you a lil'bit of what went on that night. It makes me smile just to think back on it =) I wanted to load a video but it was giving me sme problems, as soon as I figure it out, I will post. ; )

I had the immense pleasure and privelege to play with very talented and handsome fellas from Spain- Michel Gonzalez (guitar) & Ramon 'Mon' Orenzio (guitar, voice,cajon, and trumpet). SUCH TALENT!! These two guys undoubtedly made this night into what it was. Adding Mon to the duo was a surprise even for me and I'm so happy he was here to join us!! That is all art, all of it- the music, the place, the vibe you create, even the choice of performers..all of it is part of the daily canvas we paint on.

What's up people !?!?

If you missed out on the Magic City Production Launch Party (which I was SO HAPPY to be a part of btw!!!), here's a clip of the FINALE PERFORMANCE to close the night! I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Parable MC, Llama Beats, and Travis Bashor- all accompanied by the wonderful Michel Gonzalez on Guitar!

It is ABSOLUTELY necessary that more events like these take place in Miami, forget that!...WORLDWIDE. Events that proclaim, promote, and propel all forms of art and culture have to continue to rise as they have been ( at least in my experience here in SF). There is so much talent to be exposed and embraced that we must tip our hat to companies like Magic City Productions who create a space and an environment to do so! Thank You MCP!

So this is a lil' sneak peek at what Michel and I performed at the '5th Annual Dania Beach Folk and Art Festival' in, well..Dania Beach! =) My first 'cover' on an online post...but I gotta say, it is a song I will never tire from singing...ever.
You know, I really enjoyed performing at this event. It was such a laid back Fort Lauderdaley vibe, which was so artistic and bohemian! It was a great way to spend my Saturday afternoon. I chose to share this in particular with you because the guys & gals who put on the entertainment for the whole event are starting an "Original Artist Showcase" on Feb 26th, which they've asked me to participate in. I can't wait! I'm excited to be a part of ANYTHING that supports, promotes, exposes, empowers, and progresses art & culture in this world!! So I invite you ALL to come out and support me and the other talented folks who will be there...
I CANNOT WAIT to start posting more of my vids online and maybe even start streaming LIVE!! I gotta get the equipment and time, which is not hard, but will take some organizing. But if there's a demand, trust me I will deliver. To be honest, I could not feel more blessed than ever...my career is unfolding before my eyes and I am taking in part of every step in its unfolding...=D And amazingly enough, you are all being a part of it with me!

So it looks like Sunday night turns out to be the best night for me to post here... =)
Last week I was called last minute by the guys at Classic 92.3 FM Station here in Miami, FL - Los Fonomemecos, to come by and be a part of their show during their relief and donation drive for Haiti. Here's a pic we took after my live interview...

Just thought I'd show you footage of the the musical steps I'm taking which I sincerely want you to be a part of ; ) I have to say, it was a pleasure being part of their show. These guys have supported me since the day they saw me perform at the ACOP Music Festival for kids which they hosted. PLUS, they're hilarious!! Can't wait for the future radio stations to come!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
2010 is a box holding all the wonderful experiences and gifts that we desire.. only we can choose to search for it,open it up and get what we want. So go ahead, as I will do so myself...create yourself ; )

I've been meaning to catch up on all my internet duties, but I will not lie, I've enjoyed the holidays and festivities so much I couldn't get myself back to my cyber world routine!
Then came January 2010... and so many things have been coming my way that my days have gotten busier. But I decided today, 10.10.2010, to make sure and write to my lovers of music, art, life etc and let you know, I'M ALIVE! = ) I am alive in so many ways, not just physically, but as far as my career, my love life, my family..I have begun to feel a harmony I haven't felt before. And along with that many challenges that I've never faced before. Now, challenges have always been a foreshadowing to success in my experience, so I quickly get past my initial anxiety and fear of whats to come and what's the best choice and embrace the unknown, which will soon be known to me, because I will make it happen.
How awesome it that?!? To have the power to make decisioc that end up forming who you are and who you want to be...this makes me smile everytime I think about it =)

OK. Stay tuned...there's much to come! I will keep you posted on a week to week basis.

Hi Everyone!
Just letting you know I'm leaving town for my grandma's 90th bday celebration!! =) It's sort of ironic how things work out... ( makes me think of the Alannis Morrisette song "ironic"..). My grandfather- my mom's dad, as you all know, passed on Monday morning of this week. And now,I will be setting sail to celebrate my grandma's-my dad's mom, 90th bday...
Death and Life, all in one week ... I guess this is just another proof of the dichotomy of 'life' that we live.
So you know, my returm will be on Monday, and I will be internet-free, as I should be..well as all of us should be for some special moments or breaks for this fast-paced, connected world we live in..so I will be back on Monday!

An Unforgettable Man...

I feel the need to have my first Picture of the Week for the month of December be of my grandfather...Mi Papito Jaime. Words cannot express the gratitude and pride that I carry within me because this man is in my life. We have shared so many wonderful memories together and I am so happy to have been able to spend those moments with him, as some of us don't even get to because of our busy lives or just because our gp's pass away before we can ever meet them...and so, I really feel so lucky.

If you have not heard yet, my grandpa's life is quickly deteriorating... He was diagnosed with prostate cancer about 8 yrs or so ago, and it didn't even phase him. He was a soldier. Nobody knew anything...he knew he had many memories left to create with his family and friends =) This year, at 85, he began to get sick and they soon found that it had returned and spread. He has been such a trooper and had such a life that he himself has said "God has been so good to me." I must say that this minuscule dedication on my blog is the least I could do to let others know what he means to me. He has been consistently on my mind for these last weeks and so I wanted to give him his own moment to leave an imprint even on the cyber world, just as he left one in all the lives of those who know/ew him, as he's left one on his country of Colombia, and as he's one in the depths of my heart.

Speaking of the devil...
this is the young, talented guitarist and composer who is a dear friend of mine whom I quoted (actually translated, because he said it in Spanish) earlier, Michel Gonzalez. He just come back into my life 2 months ago. We graduated together in Boston with a bunch of other amazingly talented cats from all over the world and then went on our way to pursue our careers. Lucky for me, Miami has become his next stop! I am blessed & so proud to call him a band member & friend =)
I chose this pic of us from Latin Songwriter Night at The Van Dyke Cafe on Lincoln Rd this past Sunday because I truly am thankful for him. *If you missed the show go to: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/2676930 I performed at the 1st hour ( 1:00.00 to be exact) in the video, so click through and you'll find it . I hope you all had a nice long weekend full of joy, love, food, and memories. It's times like Thanksgiving that force us all to become aware of all that surrounds us, from the most valuable things to the most unwanted things that we need and desire to change. That is why a holiday like Thanksgiving means so much to me...not to take away from it's original intended meaning, but I think that what occurs now surmounts the history of this holiday.
I wanted to share what a great friend of mine and excellent guitarist said on Thank You Day.."let's hope that these meaningful moments and times don't only occur on holidays. May everyday be Thanksgiving Day =)"

Miami Music Festival Performance!!

THE DATE AND TIME for my Miami Music Festival Performance IS IN!! It will be my ONLY show for the festival so YOU BETTA BE THERE!!

On Friday, the second day of the festival, I will be leaving on a surprise cruise for my grandma's 90th Bday!!! CRAZY, I know... Anyways, I'm really excited to perform at the festival, but I am just as excited to celebrate my abuelitas 90 yrs of life on her favorite form of vacation- a cruise =)

So here I am hanging out with my fellas and ladies who came to support the cause for Children and Cancer at Passions Night Club after having a great closing performance! I was really happy with the turnout!! Kristi Huddleston (2nd from left) put this entire event together and it has been such a pleasure to work with her! I've been wanting a picture of us since the day I started recording 'Already an Angel' for her foundation Music For Miracles.
The other four lovelys (from left) Guiseppe, Eddy, David, and Amanda mean SO much to me!! They never miss a performance and always make my nights worth while =) I'm so happy to have a pic with all of them cuz now I can post it! =D.... Love you all!!

BIG NEWS!! I've been selected for the Miami Music Festival!

I am sooo happy to announce that I was recently told that I was selected to perform at the Miami Music Festival!! I really don't know what may come of this but I know that this will will open up doors like crazy..at least I hope!! I can't wait to get the times and locations of my performances! As soon as I find out..YOU will know for sure =)
One thing I DO know is I will perform on Thurs. Dec 10th, the first day of the festival. It goes on all weekend, but that weekend I leave for my abuelita's (grandma's) 90th Surprise Birthday Cruise!!! One which I would not miss for the world... The MMF told me they'd try to have perform twice on Thurs to give me more exposure, since I will not be there for the rest of it. Whatever the case, I feel blessed and look forward to showing Miami who RIA IS!! =) Just like this, there is SO MUCH MORE TO COME and I'm thankful for it already.

I love you guys and thank you for your support! I'll keep you posted with details...

Hey Everybody! This whole blog thing is pretty cool...I'm still trying to adapt to it and fit it into my daily routine. Your response and feedback will keep me here, so let me know what you think feel, wanna see next, wanna hear next etc etc...

So 2 things!!
I am really considering recording a Christmas EP of about 4/5 songs and I would like to hear your what thoughts are. I love Christmas music and since the season's literally around the corner...why not right? Now if I do, I have a couple of songs in mind- any suggestions??? I also don't have much time, so let's see if it can be done!

2nd thing...
I wanted to announce that I've been selected to be the headlining artist to perform in support of an amazing organization called Children Battling Cancer- CBC for short.You can check them out here: www.childrenbattlingcancer.com

They are organizing a HUGE fund raising concert where at the end of my performance I will sing a song called "Already an Angel" in the name of all the children who battle this disease. I'm going to start recording the song next week at the studio...So I'll let you know how it's going... I'm very happy to be a part of this!! It's all for great cause and I look forward to helping out! So if you can help out also, WITH ANYTHING, even 50 cents works, whatever... I ask that you donate whatever you can please.

BUT WAIT!...So you know, I'll be performing on NOV 20th at Passions NightClub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for the Kick-Off Party/Auction of the Concert ( which I forgot to mention, will be in 2010). Tickets for the Kick Off are just $20! You get open bar, free food, a concert and good times mingling with other folks who support the cause. **Spend your next $20 on yourself and help a cause all in one =) It's a great deal! ALL proceeds go to the CBC organization. So I cant to see you there!!

Hey Everybody!! So I guess it's time I jump on the Blogging wagon =)... I realized that on my personal facebook i post stuff and comment ALL the time and I thought...'hmmm, why don't I just do this on my own blog and share it with my fans, followers, supporters, lovers of music, musicians etc...So here I AM =)

ThE Beginning... (excuse the length but its beacuse it's my first post)

For those who don't know me -Thx for being here and reading this!!!... I am Ria. I was born in Colombia, raised in Miami by my cuban father and my colombian mother ( I adore them BOTH!!, more than they can ever fathom..) Anyways, I am a pop/soul/latin indie artist making a name for myself, starting with the streets of MIA, yes repping the 305! ..hehe. So, I'm currently promoting my 2 singles- 'Alright' and 'The Real Thing' which you can find on iTunes!! BUT WAIT, you can also find them available on my FB and MySpace and THOSE pages DON'T take a percentage of my revenue. So buy where you'd like, the quality's the same... but I'd appreciate you buy and tell your peeps to do it thru my NIMBIT windows on FB and MySpace. Honestly, as an Indie Artist, every penny counts. Okay so right now, i'm performing around town (looking into geting some live footage of the shows for you) and planning the release of my DEBUT album ...COMING REAL SOON! I'm so excited! I've worked on it for quite while and put everything in me into it. I cannot WAIT til you hear it !!! =) It's a whole lotta work, but I've got a couple people helping me out and that makes it a little easier. So I'm in the process of building a strong, savy, clever, respectful, hardworking team that believes in me , my music, and my career as it becomes more demanding - which is also VERY exciting! Just got to stay focused on what I am, what I do, what I love, and I am certain all else will ensue...
